Lewis Sperry Chafer asks the questions, “How can the righteous God deal righteously with the sinner and at the same time satisfy His own compassion and love in saving him from the doom His own righteousness must ever impose on one who commits sin?” “Can sin be righteously treated as sin and still a way be provided for the salvation of the sinner?”

God’s absolute holiness demands that sin be punished. Because of sin, mankind stands condemned before a holy God. Mankind, in and of themselves, cannot bring about a redemption from sin’s penalty, but the cross upon which Jesus died speaks to and demonstrates to all mankind, God’s great love for mankind, His creation.
At its core the message of the cross, as it relates to sin, is God has clearly communicated to mankind the consequence of sin and His solution to the problem created by human sin. Mankind, in and of itself, cannot bring about a solution for sin, but must look to God for the answer to mankind’s sin problem. It’s very important to understand sin will always oppose God and His Word. Sin is the root problem and cause for all mankind’s problems. Sin impacts the life of both the saved and unsaved on a daily basis.
God has spoken. Throughout the Bible we find many ways in which God has manifested Himself to mankind.
How often have we gazed up into the heavens in wonderment and yet fail to hear the heavens speak to us of God’s glory. King David shares with us in Psalms 19:1-6 of the heaven’s message. As has been presented in our prior articles, the position of each individual before God falls clearly within one of two groups, the saved or the unsaved (the lost). There is no middle group in which an individual can be placed before God; either you’re saved or unsaved. There is no sitting on the fence when it comes to an individual’s choice regarding salvation. When one accepts God’s Word as possessing authority then one accepts what it says as truth and thus will respond to its truths.
As a Christian, we must always remember the truth in regards to salvation lies within the pages of God’s Word, the Bible, and not in the wisdom or imagination or perception or interpretation of man, no matter how godly or upright they may appear. When a Christian speaks to others of salvation, it should never be perceived from the hearer that it’s the speaker’s words defining salvation, but we must communicate very clearly it is God who has defined, in His Word, what brings about salvation. The Bible is very clear as to the standing of the saved and the unsaved (the lost) before God, and only in His word, will we find God’s view (estimate) of the lost.
Matthew 19: 25-26
When the disciples heard this, they were very astonished and said, “Then who can be saved?” And looking at them Jesus said to them, “With people this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.” (NASB) |
