God has spoken. Throughout the Bible we find many ways in which God has manifested Himself to mankind.
How often have we gazed up into the heavens in wonderment and yet fail to hear the heavens speak to us of God’s glory. King David shares with us in Psalms 19:1-6 of the heaven’s message.
How often have we gazed up into the heavens in wonderment and yet fail to hear the heavens speak to us of God’s glory. King David shares with us in Psalms 19:1-6 of the heaven’s message.
The heavens are telling of the glory of God; and their expanse is declaring the work of His hands. Day to day pours forth speech, and night to night reveals knowledge. There is no speech, nor are there words; their voice is not heard. Their line has gone out through all the earth, and their utterances to the end of the world. In them He has placed a tent for the sun, which is as a bridegroom coming out of his chamber; it rejoices as a strong man to run his course. Its rising is from one end of the heavens, and its circuit to the other end of them; and there is nothing hidden from its heat. (NASB)
Or how often have we gazed upon the beauty of a rainbow and yet fail to hear God speaking to us of His promise to mankind as recorded in Genesis 9:8-17,
Then God spoke to Noah and to his sons with him, saying, “Now behold, I Myself do establish My covenant with you, and with your descendants after you; and with every living creature that is with you, the birds, the cattle, and every beast of the earth with you; of all that comes out of the ark, even every beast of the earth. I establish My covenant with you; and all flesh shall never again be cut off by the water of the flood, neither shall there again be a flood to destroy the earth.” God said, “This is the sign of the covenant which I am making between Me and you and every living creature that is with you, for all successive generations; I set My bow in the cloud, and it shall be for a sign of a covenant between Me and the earth. It shall come about, when I bring a cloud over the earth, that the bow will be seen in the cloud, and I will remember My covenant, which is between Me and you and every living creature of all flesh; and never again shall the water become a flood to destroy all flesh. When the bow is in the cloud, then I will look upon it, to remember the everlasting covenant between God and every living creature of all flesh that is on the earth.” And God said to Noah, “This is the sign of the covenant which I have established between Me and all flesh that is on the earth.” (NASB)
The Bible speaks of the many times God spoke to the nation of Israel throughout her history; through Moses, at Mount Sinai, through the Prophets. And in Hebrews 1:1-3, the writer of the ‘Epistle to the Hebrews’ declared to the Jewish believers that “in these last days” God had spoken to them in His Son.
God, after He spoke long ago to the fathers in the prophets in many portions and in many ways, in these last days has spoken to us in His Son, whom He appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the world. And He is the radiance of His glory and the exact representation of His nature, and upholds all things by the word of His power. (NASB)
The message spoken to their fathers is contained in the Old Testament while the message spoken to them by His Son, “in these last days”, and confirmed to us by those that heard him, is contained in the New Testament. Chafer writes, “This latter message is primarily of “So great salvation” which in no wise can be neglected with impunity.”
Over the next several lessons I would like to look at three messages from God through His Son as revealed in the cross and they are Sin, Love, and Righteousness.
Chafer writes, “The conclusion from these revelations is that by the cross God has declared our sin, His own righteousness and His own unmeasured love. He has spoken to us through His Son. The reasonable requirement is that we believe that message. This is the only condition given in the Bible upon which one may enter into God’s saving grace.”
